Is it hazardous to clean months old poop from the toilet?

There is a toilet in my house that is broken so we don't use it. My little brother left a little "present" in that toilet MONTHS ago and we discovered it recently. The whole toilet is filled with brown toilet paper and there is poop in there somewhere. My mom bought latex gloves and wooden kitchen utensils to clean it out. But I'm wondering, is it hazardous to clean months old poop out of the toilet? I dont want her to get sick. Should she clean it out or what should we do? Thanks. :)
